History and Makeup: Hey wait a minute, isn’t that grape agate, not grape amethyst? That’s probably what you’re asking right now. And you are correct. But also wrong. Here’s the thing: There’s no microcrystalline structure here, so it’s not really an agate. It’s a quartz that has naturally turned purpleish… which is just amethyst. But over the years it got the name grape agate and it kind of stuck. Tomato. Tomatoe. Anyway, semantics aside, the point here is that these incredible botryoidal pieces are awesome additions to your collection. Found primarily in specific parts of Indonesia, there’s a lot of mineralogy involved in the color compositions. You’ll mostly see them in purple, but as you can see in our pieces, they are available in white, green, blue and more.
